Archie Payne

Research Scientist - Numerical Modelling

I studied for my master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Cambridge with a focus on applied mathematics and theoretical physics, specialising in fluid dynamics. In particular, I studied low-Reynolds number and non-Newotian flow. In the summer before my final year, I worked at Full Matrix under the UKAEA internship scheme researching the effects of heating on ultrasound propagation and modifying the FEM software to model it - it must have made a good impression, as I’m now back as a fully-fledged research scientist developing our numerical modelling capabilities even further.

Out of office

Outside work, I’m likely at the nearest pub quiz – failing that, I’ll either be sat with a crossword, noodling on the guitar, or cooking and/or baking something unnecessarily complicated with very little payoff.
